Long COVID-19

What causes so many to suffer
after COVID-19 infection

Long COVID (or Post COVID) is a deceiving condition

Long COVID research is taking its first baby steps and there is yet a lot to be studied.
The lack of knowledge causes many doctors to be unaware of this strange and new condition.
The symptoms themselves can also be related to other conditions
as no sign of an active viral infection is visible.

On the following page,
you can find useful information about the causes of the condition
and the symptoms following it.

What Causes Long Covid?

COVID-19 Spikes

The COVID-19 virus is also known as Coronavirus due to the crown-like spikes that stick out of it.

Here starts the problem.
After recovery from the viral infection, in approximately 7% of the cases, some of those same spikes keep on circulating the bloodstream

Fibrinogen and Microclots

As the COVID spikes travel through the bloodstream they get tangled in an important protein called fibrinogen.
Fibrinogen is a thread-shaped protein. in case of an injury, the fibrinogen’s job is to bind the blood platelets together keeping them still and steady.
Once a COVID spike gets caught in a fibrinogen net, it weakens the protein causing it to break. Once the fibrinogen breaks it starts to float in the bloodstream creating micro clots and these tiny microscopic particles are the main cause of long COVID symptoms.

Long Covid Symptoms

Shortness of Breath/ Long Haul

When microclots reach the lungs, fluids might start accumulating causing pulmonary edema and leading to shortness of breath with every exertion. For some patients, the condition is so severe they are bedbound for almost 23 hours a day.

Heart Palpitations

Heart palpitations occur when the heart pulses become strong or irregular. The condition is usually associated with low blood pressure, low potassium levels or stress, excitement, and anxiety.

Our clinical experience shows that patients with long-term COVID-19 tend to develop heart palpitations as well.

Brain Fog

Many patients report difficulties they never experienced before in actions requiring concentration like reading or watching TV. Children and students report struggling to do their homework. Science has yet to find the answer to how microclots cause that symptom.

Extreme Fatigue

Long COVID patients report a constant need to sleep. We are not yet sure how microclots cause extreme fatigue but different studies report the fatigue symptoms as well.

Depression & Anxiety

Unfortunately, mental health is also damaged in Long-term COVID conditions. Losing life quality and not being treated correctly can cause patients depression and anxiety.

What should you do when experiencing
one or more of the symptoms?

We offer you to consult your doctor and ask him about Long COVID and the treatments available.
